Battlefield 6 Guide & Walkthrough

What is Battlefield 6?

Battlefield 6 is a first-person shooter that splits its attention between a story-driven single-player campaign and large-scale, team-based online battles. You fight on foot as infantry or climb into tanks, aircraft and other military hardware across big, destructible maps. Developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, it also includes Battlefield Portal, a set of tools for building and sharing your own custom multiplayer modes.

Getting started

Start with the campaign before you dive online. It’s set in 2027, after the collapse of NATO lets a private military corporation called Pax Armata grow dangerously powerful. You join Dagger 1-3, an elite U.S. Marine Raiders unit, fighting to stop Pax Armata from triggering a new global conflict. The campaign travels through several locations and is a forgiving place to learn how shooting, movement and the game’s weapons actually feel.

When you’re ready, move into multiplayer. Matches are built around squads and classes, so winning depends on teamwork rather than one player’s kill count. Play a few rounds in the standard modes, follow your squadmates, and focus on reading the flow of a match before you start chasing stats.

Tips for beginners

  • Play the objective, not the scoreboard. In team-based modes, capturing points, defending, or reviving teammates wins games far more often than racking up kills.
  • Stay with your squad. Class-based roles are designed to support each other. Lone players get picked off; grouped squads push objectives and share resources.
  • Master one class first. Each role brings distinct weapons and equipment. Learning a single class deeply beats spreading yourself thin across all of them.
  • Treat vehicles as tools, not trophies. Tanks and aircraft can break a stalemate, but abandoning one the moment it takes fire wastes a huge team asset. Pull back and repair when you can.
  • Use destruction deliberately. Walls and cover can be leveled. Blow open a path to an objective, or deny enemies a hiding spot — just remember your own cover can vanish too.
  • Spend your equipment. Gadgets and consumables exist to be used. Holding a medkit or ammo pack “for later” helps nobody.
  • Explore Battlefield Portal. Custom community modes are a low-stakes way to practise weapons and try rules you won’t find in the standard playlist.

Is it worth playing?

Battlefield 6 sits at a 73.7 rating — solid, but not untouchable. Its strengths are clear: big battles, meaningful vehicle play, destructible environments and the flexible squad system the series is known for. It’s at its best when you have a squad to communicate with and when you lean into teamwork instead of solo heroics. If you enjoy team-based shooters and don’t mind a learning curve, there’s a lot here to enjoy. If you want a flawless, polished solo experience, temper your expectations.
